Renaissance Valley Academy
Renaissance Valley Academy
San Jacinto, California
In Progress
The Renaissance Valley Academy project involves an addition of a new one-story classroom building and gymnasium, along with additional surface parking and site improvements, to an existing public charter school campus for middle and high school. The new campus building is designed to enhance and create a connection with the existing two-story brick and cement plaster building while employing passive design strategies.
SLO’s design objective for the project is to provide the program needs of the new campus while also creating a strong connection to the existing building and natural surrounding. The materials used in the project match the brick and cement plaster of the existing building. To establish a connection beyond aesthetics, SLO designed a courtyard garden and outdoor plaza in between the existing and new buildings to serve not only as a gathering space but also as an outdoor extension of the classrooms. Passive design strategies were also integrated. Every classroom has cross-ventilation and opens directly to an outdoor space, either to the courtyard or to an outdoor classroom. The incorporation of clerestory windows in the Art classroom and Engineering Lab effected the roof peaks inspired by the San Jacinto Mountain ranges.
